General Information

The South Coast Bush Walking Club (SCBW) is based in Wollongong. The Club has about 70 members from Wollongong, Southern Sydney, Kiama and the Southern Highlands. The SCBW is a member of The Confederation of Bushwalking Clubs NSW Inc and the Club has insurance policies with the Confederation.

Membership is open to people 18 years and over and prospective members require an average degree of fitness to do the grade 4 activities. Most of the activities take place on weekends. Membership fees are $30 annually and are due 1st January each year. A new program and newsletter are sent to members by email every 3 months

Meetings

Meetings are held each quarter at the Edmund Rice College on Mt Keira Rd and are listed in the program. Members are encouraged to attend meetings regularly to meet fellow walkers and to catch up on club news. Meetings are followed by a guest speaker and supper.

Activities

The Clubs activities include day and overnight walks, extended walks, interstate and overseas walks, canoeing, abseiling, canyoning and some mountain bike activities. Much of the walking is off-track which means navigating a route through the bush, along creeks, across rivers and climbing up and down ridges. Getting off-track allows for the exploration of some unique environments that are truly beautiful.

The Club tries to car pool to travel to an activity and petrol costs are shared. All members should be prepared to take their turn at using their vehicle. Participants need to book in for each activity as numbers may be limited. Party sizes are kept small as the SCBW practises minimal impact bush walking and is an environmentally friendly club. What is packed in, is packed out.
