Day walks Most day walks are within 50 km or so of Inverell. In this district we have many superb areas for day walks - some on private property and some in national parks and reserves. Day walks do sometimes extend as far afield as Washpool National Park and Gibraltar Range National Park. These parks are approximately 150 km from Inverell. Popular areas for day walks include...
Overnight walks Backpacking trips can range over a wide area and up to 250 km from Inverell. Some of our favourite areas for these trips are -
Kaputar National Park - particularly the northern section around Waa Gorge and Mt Grattai. Kwiambal National Park - spectacular river scenery at the junction of the Macintyre and Severn Rivers. Kings Plains National Park - rugged walking with interesting creeks and waterfalls. Washpool and Gibraltar Range - great walking in a renowned World Heritage Area.
Other areas popular with Club members are Guy Fawkes River NP, New England NP, Oxley Wild Rivers NP, and the excellent national parks in southern Queensland such as Girraween and Sundown. In addition, trips are often organised to more distant places such as Blue Mountains and Kosciuszko.
Car camping Car camping has developed into a popular family activity for the club. Camping by the car enables members to get out into the bush for longer periods without the necessity of having to carry a backpack. Some popular areas for car camping are national parks at Girraween, Gibraltar Range, New England, Kaputar, Sundown and The Warrumbungles
Other activities In recent years activities such as canoeing, long distance walking, cycling and an appreciation of our local history have gained popularity. In addition, many members have interests in nature photography, birdwatching, native plants and geology. Day walks are sometimes held with an emphasis on these subjects.
