HOW TO DOWNLOAD DOCUMENTS

The Confederation has a number of documents available for members and visitors to download. The links below will take you to a list of the files available in each category. Usually, you will just need to click once on the name of the file you want to download, and it will begin. Files will generally be in Adobe Acrobat (PDF) or Microsoft Word format.

ADOBE READER

Many of the documents are Adobe Acrobat (PDF) files, and require the Adobe Reader to open them. Acrobat files usually have names that end with .pdf.

Most computers will already have Adobe Reader installed, so you will just be able to open the file. To check whether you have Adobe Reader, download a document from this site, then try to open it. If you see the document's contents, then you have Adobe Reader already installed.

If not, the Adobe Reader can be downloaded from Adobe's site:

http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

Once it has been downloaded, double-click the installer and follow the instructions. Note that the installer will download more files from Adobe's site, and this may take some time depending on your Internet speed.

MICROSOFT WORD

Microsoft Word is a commercial product and is not available for free. To open these documents, you will need a word processor that can open MS Word documents. Arecent copy of Microsoft Word or Office is ideal. Alternatively, other word processors can often open MS Word documents, although the formatting may not be exactly the same. Free open source systems like OpenOffice (http://www.openoffice.org/) may also be used.

MS Word documents usually have a name that ends with .doc.

FILE NAMING CONVENTIONS

Most file names to be downloaded are self-explanatory. However, you will see a number near the end of most of them. This represents the date the document was created. The format shows the year, the month and often the day of the month in that order. So 2005-06-23 represents a document created on 23 June 2005, and 2005-06 means the June 2005 issue. This format is used so that the newest file will always be at the end of the list.
