S - Short - Less than 10km
M - Medium - 10-15 km
L - Long - 15-20 km
XL - Extra Long - over 20 km

TERRAIN

1 - Graded track, some incline
2 - Graded track, hills, creek crossings
3 - Rough track, steep sections, creek crossings
4 - Off track, moderate terrain
5 - Off track, thick terrain
6 - Rock climbing and exposure

FITNESS

A - Low fitness
B - Moderate fitness
C - Good fitness
D - Good fitness with agility
E - High fitness level
F - Strenuous - experienced walkers only!

TYPES OF TERRAIN
GRADED TRACK WALKING - These walks are on formed and maintained tracks for walking or for vehicles.
OFF-TRACK WALKING - These walks are over territory where there are no formed or maintained tracks.

WALK GRADING
The grading system is divided into approximate distance, type of terrain, and fitness level required. All walk participants should check the grading to ensure they have suitable fitness level before undertaking a walk.

 
PLEASE GIVE NOTICE
Please give the event Coordinator at least two days notice for day walks, one weeks notice for overnight walks. Walks may not proceed if insufficient interest is shown.  Remember that organising events may require considerable effort on the part of the Coordinator !!

NOTES
~Day Walks – a walk that is undertaken in a single day, during daylight hours. Day walkers, meet at the Grafton McDonalds car park at 8 AM

**Overnight Backpack Walks – a walk requiring an overnight stay, carrying everything needed (food, water, tent, cooking equipment, bedding, etc.). Can range in length and difficulty.

++Easy Overnight Backpacking Walks - for those who wish to try out this activity, and to encourage those who wish to justify the expense of buying equipment. There will be more of this type of event!!

Car Camp – an overnight trip where walkers return to a central location, where the cars are located, for the night (camp in tents, caravans, vans, cabins, etc). Walkers carry only that which is normal for a Day Walk each day.

Graded Track Walking – formed and maintained tracks for walking or vehicles.

Off-Track Walking – walking where there are no formed or maintained tracks.

Club Meeting/Briefing and Social evenings are held at Sunshine House, at the corner of Kemp & Hockey Streets.  Your attendance at these meetings shows your support for the Club and the organisers of Club events.
