DIFFERENT TYPES OF ACTIVITIES

DAY WALKS A day walk is a walk that is undertaken in a single day, during daylight hours. Day walks usually occur on a weekend, generally Sunday, with members meeting at a designated location. It is usual for people in the Grafton area to meet at McDonalds car park at 8am. Transport is then pooled to reduce the number of cars travelling to the commencement of the walk. Walks are graded to assist people determine the suitability of the walk for their fitness level (refer Walks Program page).


CAR CAMPING

This is a trip involving at least one overnight stay where participants are camped at a central location accessible to cars. From the campsite walkers need carry only that which is normal for a day walk. Walks of varying levels are scheduled for each day of the car camp. Participants, however, do not need to go on the walks and can remain at the campsite if they desire.


OVERNIGHT BACKPACKING

This is a walk requiring at least one overnight stay, carrying all equipment in a backack. Necessary items include tent, water, food, cooking equipment, sleeping bag, clothing etc. As with day walks, overnight backpacking walks can vary in length and difficulty, and care should be taken that fitness level is adequate for the walk. Always refer to the walk gradings before choosing to participate in a walk.


CYCLING

Commonly day trips, but occasionally overnight, cycle trips take advantage of the scenic locations in the Clarence Valley, most often cycling along glorious rivers sparkling with liquid sunshine. People would need to supply their own bicycle and any other gear needed for the trip.


CANOEING

Canoe trips can be either day or overnight trips. People wanting to come along would need a canoe, however for those who don't own one they can be hired from local outlets.



SPECIAL EVENTS

During the year there are some special events which may occur only once or twice during the year. One such event is the White Christmas Party in August. Participants stay at the Point Lookout Cabin and the event is complete with Santa, a Christmas tree, presents, Christmas Dinner and much fun and laughter.

 

SOCIAL EVENTS

Occasionally, other social events are scheduled. These events can include dinner at a favourite restaurant, a movie night, an evening at some live entertainment and other events of interest to members.
