Send any offers to the maintainer Roger Caffin
Gear listed for sale may come from any of the following:
In most cases the gear will probably have been used a few times, but will be in very good condition and fully functional. Exceptions will be noted - some items may actually be virtually unused, while others may have been on a good number of trips. Seriously worn out gear will not normally be listed at all. I will try to give an accurate description in each case.
In general I will post a price and the first email accepting that price will get the first chance. Offers below the listed price may be entertained, but won't get any priority. As the gear is all second hand there is no GST applicable. However, if there is a delay of more than a week or two in my receiving payment I may offer the item to the next bidder or re-advertise it. Cheques and Paypal will be accepted.
You should add $6 for postage within NSW: if you are further afield I may have to increase it slightly. I will check with you first. The items will be sent by ordinary parcel post unless you want to pay for Express or something else.
All items are classified as 'second hand' and so the usual manufacturer guarantee will probably be void. I offer no guarantee either. If you are unhappy with the item on receipt you can contact me with a week to return it for a refund of the purchase price - you pay the postage each way. This doesn't apply if you have used the item of course.
Why don't I put the items on eBay? Because I have never used eBay and I can't be bothered learning how. Also, I am not really interested in auctioning the stuff. This way the gear goes to Australian readers anyhow.
| AU$60 | Primus Gravity MF stove (old series) |
| NOT multi-Fuel: runs on Shellite, Coleman fuel etc from a normal pumped tank, but cannot take gas canisters. Tank and pump included. Reviewed in Backpacking Light. Runs OK on Shellite but priming tends to be a little 'fireball'. | |
| Used maybe once in bench testing. | |
| AU$10 each | Trekka/Gasmate gas stove - steel |
| Not the lightest of stoves, but I have been using one for about 12 years for day walks on standard screw-thread canisters with complete reliability. The stove has a fixed pot supports and a radiation/windshield, and has a large carry case. It was received for a Wild stove review. I use my one on day walks despite the extra weight because, being steel, it can take being tossed around in my day pack. | |
| Not used | |
| AU$100 | Tatonka Bushwalker pack 70-80 L |
| Internal frame pack, two compartments, pocket on lid. Packcloth body, Cordura base. Received for Wild pack survey. Replaced by my ultralight packs. Has a slight abrasion the size of a 10 cent piece on one side. | |
| Used on a few trips up to 5 days. | |
| AU$30 each | WE Taslan Goretex parkas (one red, one blue, medium size) |
| These are full-length heavy GoreTex jackets from many years ago, with all the storm-sealing. They have been treated with DWR, but they are known to leak slightly in heavy rain at the sides of the shoulders due to some pin-pricks through the fabric. That's why the price is so low. They have been replaced by far lighter gear. | |
| Used for many years, but no rips or tears, just some pin-holes. Good for bush-bashing. | |
| AU$10 each | Orikaso Folding Picnic Set (one red, one blue) |
| Left over from a BGT test. Cute, but not my style. Read my report for details. | |
| Used a few times only, undamaged. | |
| AU$30 | GSI Kettle, Hard Anodised Aluminium, 0.8 litre |
| Lighter than the 'standard' Trangia kettle, about the same size. Comes with titanium wire handles I added in place of the standard one. Supplied with a lot of GSI cookware for Backpacking Light review. Replaced by lighter stuff. | |
| Used a couple of times. | |
| AU$30 | Synthetic sleeping bag, rectangular, hoodless |
| Nylon outer, cotton inner, polyester fill, Chinese. Good as a quilt or for kids in warm weather. | |
| Used a few times by a kid. | |
